Privacy Policy

Roughpad works fully without signing in. Notes, images, tabs and backups are saved in ~/Library/Application Support/Roughpad/ on your Mac, and never leave it.

Sync is optional. When you sign in with Google, Google shares your name, email address, profile picture and Google account ID with Roughpad. We use them to identify your account and show who you're signed in as.

While you use sync, our servers store:

• Your account: name, email address, profile picture URL and Google account ID.
• Your synced data: the text of your notes, your tabs and titles, closed tabs, and images you add, along with a log of changes so every Mac can catch up.
• A session for each signed-in Mac: the Mac's name, the IP address and app version it signed in from, and when the session expires.

Synced data is encrypted in transit and at rest, but it isn't end-to-end encrypted, so it can technically be read on the server. We only access it to operate and fix the service.

Released builds send crash and error reports to Sentry so we can fix bugs. Reports include the app version, macOS version, Mac model and technical details about what went wrong. They aren't meant to include the contents of your notes.

Roughpad checks updates.roughpad.com for new versions every 30 minutes. Like any web request, this shares your IP address and app version. No other information about your Mac is sent.

roughpad.com uses no cookies and no analytics.

Roughpad uses these providers to run sync, updates and this website:

• Google, for sign-in.
• Vercel, which hosts the sync server and this website.
• Neon, which hosts the database for accounts, sessions and the change log.
• Amazon Web Services, which stores synced notes and images, and serves app updates.
• Sentry, for crash reports.

Data is stored in the United States.

Synced data is kept for as long as you have an account. Signing out stops syncing on that Mac, ends its session and keeps its notes on the Mac.

To delete your account, email amilajack@gmail.com from the address you sign in with. Deleting your account permanently removes your account, sessions and all synced notes and images from our servers. Notes on your Macs aren't affected.
